Kenya now experiences cold weather

Nairobi will go under 10 degrees

29-06-2019 by redazione

After the (few) rains of May and June, the cold weather now arrives in Kenya.
The winter season itself stands out because only in this period, until the end of July, temperatures in the Rift Valley and in the north of the country can fall even below ten degrees.
At high altitude, in the areas of Mount Kenya and Eldoret, you will see snow while in the savannah you will experience a significant temperature range between day and night, with temperatures ranging up to 18 degrees.
According to the Kenyan weather service, the low temperature situation in some areas will often be combined with other rains and thunderstorms or, in any case, with long periods of covered sky that will also cool the earth.
The areas most affected will be those of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang'a, and Kirinyaga. Also in Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Nyandarua and Laikipia the temperature will be close to zero.
On the coast, the cold may mean that the temperature drops below twenty degrees. According to the experts you can even touch 18 degrees, but the wind can make a difference, alternating days covered with flashes of sunshine.
Clearly, the poorest population will be particularly prone to cold diseases: flu, pneumonia and respiratory diseases.
Even cases of malaria, which fortunately continue to decline in the country from year to year, could increase during this period.
According to the Economic Survey of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), in 2018 the main cause of death was respiratory diseases, which accounted for almost 40 percent of the total, compared to 19.4 percent of malaria.
