More than 422,000 Kenyans or residents have been vaccinated to date.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health, confirming that as of Friday, 9 April, the official vaccine granted free of charge by the Government, i.e. AstraZeneca produced in India by the pharmaceutical company Serum, has been injected into 110,523 health workers (those who refuse are dismissed), 34,150 security personnel and just under 60,000 teachers.
To these must be added the relatives of representatives of the above categories, diplomatic officials and all those over 58 years of age who are in Kenya at the moment, for a total of another 217,442 individuals. More men (56.5%) than women.
About 800,000 vaccines are still available, and a second supply should arrive in June, according to agreements between Kenya, Great Britain and the World Bank. The Covax programme could also donate another batch of doses.
On the other hand, the government has suspended supplies to private organisations of other vaccines currently on the market: 75,000 packages of the Russian Sputnik had arrived in Nairobi and 527 were donated. All the others were sent back to the sender, following indications from the continental body Africa CDC.
In the meantime, the rate of positivity has fallen slightly in the last 24 hours compared to the swabs taken, and now stands at 12.4%.
A total of 21 deaths have been recorded, with 1030 new infections out of 8316 swabs.
The number of people who have died after contracting Covid-19 in Kenya rises to 2330.
Meanwhile, 422 patients have recovered from the disease, 317 have been treated at home and in isolation, and 105 in various health facilities. The total number of cures now stands at 98,605.
1,616 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities across the country, while 4,243 patients are in isolation and home treatment, 247 patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU).
