INITIATIVES
20-11-2019 by Freddie del Curatolo
A week is missing from the International Week of Italian Cuisine, the event in Malindi that for five days will enhance the culinary art of our home in what has been for thirty-five years recognized as a "Litte Italy" in Equatorial Africa and where there is a fertile community of fellow countrymen who become thousands during the high season, including holidaymakers, homeowners and tourists on weekly holidays or fifteen days in resorts, villages and b & bs between Malindi, Watamu and Mambrui. This year, thanks to the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Nairobi and the prompt response of the restaurateurs involved, with the organization and supervision of malindikenya.net, the event takes place for the first time in Malindi and ten restaurants will offer specialties of Italian cuisine: Jiko Restaurant (Leopard Point), Tangier Lounge, Bar, Baby Marrow, Malaika Beach, La Malindina, Billionaire, Kilili Baharini, Osteria Beach and Olimpia Club.
But the week will also have a promotional preview and tastings, Saturday throughout the day at the Oasis Mall, in the atrium outside the supermarket Tuskys, where we at malindikenya.net we will set up a tricolor banquet offering to passers-by food specialties of our house with the active participation of restaurateurs themselves and some sponsors such as NGO Karibuni Onlus, which in addition to providing eggs and chickens from its farms in Langobaya to almost all the premises that take part in the event, will prepare omelettes, while the importer of Watamu Taste Italy will offer products of Saclà, and the local dairy company MPL will taste its fresh and aged cheeses.
The invitation is addressed to everyone who is in Malindi on Saturday: come and visit us, bring your Italian spirit and maybe even something "homemade" to be tasted by Kenyans and non-Italian foreigners who will pass through the Oasis Mall. Promoting the good of our country is the least we can do to show that our presence on the Kenyan coast, for a long time, is an added value if it is managed with passion, intelligence and generosity.
