This praiseworthy initiative that we support from the beginning with the help of many individuals and some associations, is called Real Malindi and was created by the coach and educator Davis Badili.
Furunzi is one of the suburbs of Malindi, its place of aggregation is the large green esplanade that can be seen from the road to the National Park of Tsavo. When it rains heavily, small lakes are formed where, in no time at all, small muddy fish can be fished (which must be cleaned thoroughly to make them edible and dried in the first possible sun to give them a minimum of flavour) and where bull frogs croak non-stop at night. In the two main prairies there are four soccer goals and there the boys from Ganda and the other neighboring neighborhoods compete. Badili selects the best and sees if they want to study. Of course, and it also happens with the girls, everyone likes to play football and be recruited into the strongest teams. So, to get to that level you have to stay on the books, not go to the video rooms and places where the older ones learn to smoke the grass and drink palm wine.
This is the reality of the poor areas of Malindi and football is the cleanest and most aggregative way to avoid drifts that will then result in petty crime, drugs and disease.
After creating several teams for each age group, including women, Badili now wants to give children a vision of what the future could be for those who apply and is serious: a real football team that plays in a championship with real games, referees and ranking, with the dream of being able to win. Through their example, young people have an extra dream, while the older ones can aspire to play in the Kenyan Premier League, which has already happened to five boys of the previous social project related to football that we have followed in recent years with Malindi United.
