Relaunching the economy of Watamu and Malindi and at the same time supporting and promoting environmental conservation by launching collective initiatives.
Watamu's "7 Island Festival", now in its third edition, has deliberately transformed itself into a "Boutique Event Initiative" which, with the essential key to fun and the fantastic location of Paparemo Beach, will involve participants from 13 to 15 August with a programme that includes music, culture, art, excursions and environmental protection, thanks to a partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service.
Watamu's 7 Island Resort espouses a new kind of tourism, young, aware and futuristic, with the aim of launching Kilifi County as a hub of interesting holidays, suitable for an international and new clientele. It is no coincidence that the Festival (which can only be attended by booking a room in the resort) will attract guests from South Africa, Eastern Europe and other countries, as well as from the capital Nairobi which, thanks also to events like this and to those who have the perseverance and courage to repeat them, now recognises Watamu as a destination with multiple attractions.
Our mission is to collectively promote and relaunch the local economy of Kilifi County, which is heavily dependent on tourism," explains Roberto Lenzi, owner of the 7 Islands Resort and patron of the event. "In these difficult times, we must think first and foremost of our local communities, both those who work in the sector and have been severely penalised, and those who want to return to travelling safely and with all the necessary precautions. The other aspect that we absolutely want to follow is the respect for the environment and the involvement of everyone in activities that can improve this fantastic place. Our events will therefore be completely "plastic free" and during the Festival we will promote a wonderful initiative that we will launch on 18 August in collaboration with the KWS, in line with national projects linked to the Blue Economy".
In fact, 7 Islands has decided to engage with Watamu's environmental experts Ecoworld and KWS to set up a "farm" for vermiculture, with the aim of providing bait for fishermen in the local communities of Mida Creek and preventing the deforestation of mangroves.
The 7 Island Festival will start on Friday 13 August and will include the entire days of Saturday and Sunday. There are two tickets for participants, one that includes sea and beach events (with a "musical" excursion in the marine park, on the sand atolls with deejay and cocktail bar) and one for just the "land" events, with multiple activities and more than 10 deejays involved, tickets starting at Kes. 10,000 for the three days. Overnight options include solutions from Kes. 8.000. For information and bookings Tel. 0713 326336 Mail: reservation@sevenislandswatamu.com
