Freddie Del Curatolo's poem "Mal d'Africa" in music by Marco Bigi

The most famous italian words to explain the "african saudade"

Imagine a place where the sky does not overlook you, it passes through you.
You don't simply breathe the air, you savour it, time flows, it doesn't run, and your nervous system settles, it doesn't get nervous.
Since 2005, when this poem by Freddie del Curatolo was first published in the now unobtainable booklet "Come prendere il mal d'Africa ed altri 101 virus tropicali" (later reprinted in Italy by Liberodiscrivere in the guide "Malindi Italia"), thousands of people have identified with these words and his verses appear almost everywhere on the web, as quotations of a love, a nostalgia, a feeling that unites and resembles the most touching aspects, in every sense, of the African continent.

These words by the journalist and writer who has been frequenting Kenya since 1990 and living there since 2005 have recently been set to music (on the author's own recitation) by Marco Bigi, a frequent visitor to Kenya for many years with a past as a composer and orchestral player for RAI, as a concert performer and arranger.

The poem in music (in italian) is available in mp3.
