El Nino tailspin, more rain in Kenya

Floods in Nairobi, uncertainty over end of instability

14-01-2024 by redazione

It will be the latest tailspin of the El Niño cyclone that Kenya is currently experiencing, according to the National Meteorological Department, which is hitting the country, especially in the north and will continue with thunderstorms and intermittent rain until around 20 January.
According to the latest update from the Kenya Met Meteorological Service, some areas, including the central highlands of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, will experience real 'storms'.

Counties along the Lake Victoria basin and parts of western Kenya will also experience heavy rainfall.
Yesterday in Nairobi violent downpours hit the city and its surroundings, also causing several traffic problems, with fallen trees and flooding.
Experts specified in a media release that other parts of the country, such as the coastal region and the southwestern lowlands, will also be affected by heavy rainfall.

Kenya Met also reported that rainfall is also expected to spread occasionally to Isiolo and Samburu counties.
There is much confusion in heaven and earth, however, regarding the forecast in Kenya: a month ago, meteorologists predicted that the country would experience El Nino rains until December.

However, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has issued a warning that El Nino rains will continue until April 2024.
On the other hand, the East African Meteorological Service said that the entire area will soon see temperatures rise and that 2024 will be even hotter than last year.
So far, there have been 174 victims of the cyclone-related heavy flooding in Kenya, with over 560,000 displaced.
