E-VISA
11-08-2023 by redazione
After the inconvenience of the blocking of online visas to enter and stay in Kenya, due as we had announced the same day, to an attack by Sudanese hackers on the government's teleservices platforms, Kenya's Ministry of Interior and National Security, had issued a statement, specifying that anyone who fell victim to the inconvenience of finding the "ecitizen" portal (from which one has to go through to access the evisa. go.ke, which is the address of the visa portal) would still be able to go to the immigration desk at the airports in Nairobi and Mombasa and be able to fill out the paper visa, which was in effect until 2021.
This was an emergency solution implemented by the government in order not to lose tourists and to keep them and the airlines from losing their tickets, in addition to the damage to the tourism economy and the country's image in general.
Now, the problem has been largely solved, in the sense that you can access the site and, with the usual difficulties, fill out the form attaching everything that is requested. In this regard, although the Kenyan government has not issued a second communiqué cancelling the previous one, thus in fact confirming the functioning of the ecitizen portal and therefore also that of the evisa.go.ke site and writing that the paper visa would no longer be accepted on arrival, the fact remains that the emergency is over and the news has been transmitted to airlines around the world.
This means that even if you have problems with the payment, or you do not receive the visa on time, or there are hiccups in proceeding with filling out the e-visa requirements, this will not entitle you to travel without at least a receipt of payment.
To be sure of this, you will still need to get confirmation from your airline, because it is also likely that they can give you a paper visa on arrival (the ways of Kenya are endless...) but it is almost certainly from Europe that they will not let you leave.
So, as before the hacker attack, let's arm ourselves (with patience) and get going!
