Malindi Clean Up by zones was a success

Many people around town respecting Covid-19 restrictions

11-04-2021 by Leni Frau

The monthly clean-up of Malindi, divided into zones and limited to small groups of citizens due to Covid-19 restrictions, proved to be a success.
Citizens responsible for the Malindi Green And Blue movement organised themselves to collect rubbish in their neighbourhood or in front of their businesses, offices and homes.
From 8 am in at least twenty areas of Malindi, residents armed with gloves, bags and rakes were seen, covered with masks, gathering plastic and other non-routine rubbish at the roadside, waiting for the arrival of the waste collection truck coordinated by the Progressive Welfare Association of Malindi.
There were so many activities, associations and individuals who participated that to mention them all would risk forgetting someone.
It was a swarming of people and staff cleaning up, during the two hours granted and supported by the government and county authorities, everyone did their part, demonstrating that this method of calling for responsibility for 'one's own garden' could be a saving habit for the town.
It is worth thanking those who always support these initiatives, from NEMA, to the Kilifi County Environment Department and Malindi Municipal Council, to Malindi DCC with its Kazi Mtaani programme.
The photo gallery below shows some of the areas covered and the people involved in the initiative, from Lamu Road to Roundabout, Kenyatta Road, Casuarina Marine Park, Majengo, Ngowe Road, Simba Road, Casino Road, Mombasa Road, Seafront Road and others.
