Among the 133 cases of positivity at Covid-19 reported this afternoon by Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe (of which we will speak with all the other data in the article on the home page from midnight on Tuesday, June 16) there are in fact also four collaborators of Uhuru Kenyatta who are part of the regular staff of the State House, the "White House" in Nairobi.
Those of the presidential officials, whose details have not been disclosed, are the first infections that directly affect the Government of Kenya.
State House spokesman Kanze Dena said that the identity of the four will remain secret and that employees have already been admitted to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital in Kiambu County. Screening at the State House was conducted last weekend and following swabs the President and his family were found to be free of the virus, but some members of the families of the Presidency officials have already been isolated and other close associates are supposed to be already under quarantine.
The contagions at the State House arrive on the very day that several public institutions, including the courts, resumed normal operations, which were halted in March because of state directives aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.
The process of slow return to normal could now be halted because the entry of Covid-19 in places considered safe and unassailable, where procedures are always very shrewd and strict, says a lot about how much the virus is also very contagious in Kenya, although fortunately not serious in the consequences (at least for now) compared to many other countries.
