Silversand cleaned again by volunteers and institutions

Still waiting for donation by more hotels and activities of Malindi

16-02-2020 by Freddie del Curatolo

The hope is that at the end of this second major organized cleaning of the beach of Silversand and the Marine Park, the activities that overlook this part of the coast, have all contributed with a minimum donation to allow us to pay the diesel of those who have made available for FREE the bulldozers and trucks, and the meal to the volunteers of the institutions that participated without asking anything else in return but rather providing indispensable help. By now those who read us have understood it, we must move first to resolve the situation, and for us I do not mean the environmental movement or some enlightened entrepreneur, by us I mean the responsible citizens, anyone between public and private who cares about Malindi.
When this happens, everything is easier, everything costs less, unity is found and, above all, the institutions come back.
So it happened yesterday, with the organized cleaning of the beach from the debris brought by the river. An extraordinary emergency as it can be, at maximum systems, an earthquake. One could not ignore the emergency and not act. So you have to decide which side to stand on, those who dig and help together with the institutions during the earthquake, even if they may have arrived late, even if they are more volunteers than managers, even if politicians make themselves beautiful, etc. ... all this comes later, if you continue to forgive me the metaphor: first of all PARTICIPATE, give a hand all together.
So yesterday from 7am who wanted to participate was on the field, coordinated by Sabina Vivaldi and Malindi Environment Manager Lennox Mwangolo, with the KWS rangers and other associations. Those who could not participate but understood the spirit and the goodness of the operation, sent their contribution, by hand or with mpesa 0727483855. Those who have not understood or prefer to pretend nothing for reasons of their own that we do not even feel like looking or analyzing, even though we work or live near the beach, even though we walk and shout to the four winds how much they love it and care or complain because "the Government does nothing", have not moved a fingernail, neither physically nor with a contribution.
There is time until tonight to do so, because the bulldozer will still be busy all day at the Marine Park, after yesterday seven trucks from the county took away tons of branches, debris, plastic and various rubbish, bringing the beach back to a walkable and appreciable size.
In addition to the name of Driftwood Club, Olimpia Club, White Elephant, Cozy Point Home and Kilili Baharini, we would also like to thank all the other hotels and restaurants in the area. We'll talk about it tomorrow...
