Freddie and Sbringo, supportive friends for Kenya

The sale of the CD that helps Karibuni Onlus continues.

When there used to be records, many people called them albums.
The definition comes from the Latin word "white," but by translation it means "white book," from the name of the ancient "album amicorum," a notebook where everyone put his or her signature.
Here, what Freddie and Sbringo created, dear "amicorum," when there were once albums would surely have been considered an album. More! It would have been considered a "concept album," that is, one of those albums that deal with the same topic or tell a single story in installments. Sort of like Pink Floyd's "The Wall," The Who's "Tommy" or Edoardo Bennato's "Puppet Without Strings."
So "Once Upon a Time There Were Italians in Kenya" is a "Concept album amicorum," because those who conceived, composed, sang and produced it are two friends, Alfredo "Freddie" Del Curatolo (journalist, writer and performer) and Marco "Sbringo" Bigi (musician, composer, sound engineer).
Two white friends who chose Africa as their adopted land and enjoyed, for 10 years, from 2012 to 2022, observing their compatriots in the places where they, coincidentally, also happened to be. And not turning their eyes away when they find situations where you can help.
Such is the case with the food emergency that has arisen in recent years in the hinterlands of Malindi and Watamu, the very resorts from which the songs and monologues that ended up on the amicorum album take their cue. So whoever buys the album, either in physical format in Kenya (we ship or deliver it directly to you) or in "liquid" format on Mp3 wherever you are, at a minimum price of € 10 or Kes. 1200, makes a contribution to Karibuni Onlus, which has long been setting up a food support project for school canteens in Langobaya.
All the more reason to buy "Once Upon a Time There Were Italians in Kenya!"
But this record is also enjoyable, interesting, musically well conceived and played, poetic, ironic and catchy.
In the beginning, the idea was to tell the stories of the Italians in Kenya to the very inspirers and unwitting protagonists of the songs and monologues, in the places they frequented, with the formula of "song theater" so dear to one of the duo's declared masters, Giorgio Gaber.
Thus were born, over the course of the tourist seasons, the shows "Safari Bar," "Non vado più a Malindi," "Il Kenya Kambia," "Big 5" and precisely "C'erano una volta gli italiani in Kenya." Freddie and Sbringo decided to collect the most significant songs and poems and give them an "official" guise with a proper record production, a little African-style, a little proper.
Niger Amicorum style.
Join the "amicorum" group too, let's color together the black and white book of Italians in Kenya!
