INITIATIVE

As we have mentioned several times in the past few days, it is being done by Malindikenya.net and its director Freddie del Curatolo, a journalist but also a singer and performer in his spare time (and mind you, he loses very little of it...) together with his friend musician Marco Bigi, former RAI orchestral player, in ironic Sbringo art. During the period of the pandemic they decided to record the most significant songs they have written in ten years and performed in their shows staged in Kenya and Italy.
Now the record entitled "Once Upon a Time There Were Italians in Kenya" has finally been released, at the same time as the African country's biggest food crisis, after four abnormal rainy seasons that caused an unprecedented drought in 70 years.
That is why this record album is not only a container of fun, lighthearted, poetic songs recounting the (dis)adventures of our compatriots in Malindi and Watamu. The record is also a vehicle to try to lend a hand, especially close to the Christmas season where according to the old adage we should "be better off," to so many inland kids who do not even have a good meal when they go to school. In Langobaya, where the Italian nonprofit Karibuni operates, young students pass out in class precisely because they eat almost nothing and their families are in dire situations.
Here was the need to combine the music project with a fundraiser in order to be able to add a good number of school meals to the immense work that Karibuni Onlus does thanks to its donations, which, however, as one can easily imagine, are never enough.
Thanks to the sales of Freddie and Sbringo's CD we are helping the local community at this very difficult time: and the response of the first two weeks is here, we have already collected 350 euros, which means 700 meals already guaranteed. Of course, it is still little and we are aiming much higher, thanks to the help of you readers who in return will receive a unique collection of songs about us and you.
What are you waiting for to make your donation?
The minimum contribution is € 10 or Kes. 1200.
Below are all the directions for purchasing the CDs, which are now available physically by texting 0720178982 or emailing info@malindikenya.net and by attending one of the two events in Malindi and Watamu where "Once Upon a Time There Were Italians in Kenya" will be presented with a concert-show. Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Olimpia Club (with the possibility but no obligation to dine after the show) and Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Sunset Beach in Watamu, with the same time and manner (Kes. 500 admission or free admission for those who buy the disc).
Clearly you can also donate and receive the CD online, directions are always below!
Let us hear that you are with us...and do yourself good by doing good!
